Q&A

What are your fees?

Based on your goals and the minimum time required, I will provide a plan and estimate.   For one-way travel, I charge a reasonable amount for time exceeding 30 minutes.

How do we begin?

I‘d like to have a brief phone conversation with you to understand your basic situation and see whether I will be able to help.  After that, I will be happy to meet you at the place of your choosing and sign a service contract and a consent form.  Next, I will ask you a variety of questions and put together a personal assessment and plan for you.

What services do you offer?

I help clients with general communication, coordination and gathering information related to their healthcare.   This would include, among other things, communicating with medical staff and ensuring that questions are answered, accompanying clients to appointments and asking questions and documenting important information and reporting such to family members and other caregivers as permitted and required, dealing with Medicare and other insurance matters, researching doctor/facility options, and providing an overall client assessment and plan of action.

Other than English, what languages do you speak?

I speak excellent Mandarin Chinese and French and intermediate German.  I have lived in China a total of 18 years and in Europe for 1 year in the past.

What documents do I need to sign?

We need to sign a Service Agreement and a Consent/Release.   The latter will allow me to share confidential health information with your medical team, according to the strict confidentiality guidelines of HIPAA legislation.

What experience do you have?

I have helped 25-30 individuals and families since starting my practice.   Originally, I served as a caregiver and advocate for a close family member.   As a result of this experience, I decided to pursue a career in patient advocacy, and I completed the certificate program at UC Berkeley Extension.

Can you help me with advanced planning and other important documents?

I am qualified to help you and your appointed agent/s complete an advanced healthcare directive (AHCD).   I would be happy to help you arrange a durable power of attorney (DPOA).

Can I try your service out?

I do not charge you for our initial, brief phone/email exchange when I am just trying to understand your basic situation and key areas of need.  I would be happy to serve you for a one-hour or longer paid engagement.  There is no obligation to continue with my service.
